B.A (Hons) Sociology

Introduction to the course:

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Sociology program, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP), offers students a comprehensive understanding of sociological theories, research methods, and practical skills. This program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in sociology while also incorporating interdisciplinary perspectives and experiential learning opportunities.
The NEP emphasizes a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to education, which is reflected in the B.A. (Hons) Sociology curriculum. Students are exposed to a wide range of courses covering core sociological concepts such as social theory, social institutions, social change, and social stratification. Additionally, the curriculum includes courses from related disciplines such as anthropology, psychology, economics, and political science, allowing students to gain a broader understanding of social phenomena.

Programme Objectives:

PEO 01: Graduate will compete in national and international spheres to pursue their professional career in government jobs, NGO, public policy, social sectors, management, development, media and academia

PEO 02: Graduates will apply sociological perspectives to understand and solve social problems and pursue higher education and research with continuous upgradation of their professional skills

PEO 03: Graduate will value interpersonal professional relationships in team work and will inculcate sustainable development and quality of life in society

PEO 04: Graduates will become socially responsible, self-fulfilling human being

Programme Outcomes:

PO 01: Domain Knowledge: Apply comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts and principles for effective understanding of the society.

PO 02: Problem analysis and critical understanding: Identify, analyze and develop critical understanding of various social issues through sociological lens.

PO 03: Construction of problem-solving Strategies: Use sociological perspectives to make plan and strategies for irradiation of social problems by managing resources and constraints with appropriate consideration for the cultural, societal, economical, public health and safety.

PO 04: Research formulation for social issues: Research is the foundation of any social issue or social problem which helps the researcher to develop an in-depth understanding about the social issue.

PO 05: Usage of modern mechanism: Technologically advanced learning is adopted using Modern tools like SPSS software where data collected are analyzed and interpreted through this software.

PO 06: Creation of socially responsible human being: Studying sociology helps the students to be aware about social issues and social problems happening in society and also to work in the field in order to bring about a transformation in social reality and be socially responsible as members of society.

PO 07: Ecological and Sustainable Development- Apply sociological understanding of change and development to inculcate ecological balance and sustainable development

PO 8: Life-long learning: Recognize the need for and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of literary change.

Eligibility:

Minimum 50% aggregate in 10 +2 or equivalent from any recognized board.

Duration (in Year): 4 (with exit option after 3 years as per NEP guidelines).
